One Year Later.

It was just a year ago today that we began our film class. I still remember it fondly, and this blog is a nice memento of it. It's so great to read something one has written long ago, and forgotten about. It is like reading someone else's work, and it is in this venue, at last, that one can judge one's own work objectively. To that end, I laughed out loud at a few of my jokes. And a few of yours, as well.

I hope all of you are thriving in college. Alas, I suppose alcoholism has begun to wreak its slow havoc upon a few of you... that's to be expected. It needn't be fatal. Just exercise prudence.

Schizophrenia is another hazard of young adulthood. I'm surely hoping the only voices you're hearing are the ones emanating from thin walls of your dorm. You'll know it's a problem if the voices are accompanied by a crushing sense of paranoia combined with a suspicion that you are the Messiah come round again.

Let me know what films you've seen that you recommend. For me, the only thing I've seen that I really and truly loved was The White Ribbon from Germany. Other than that, I've continued to watch and rewatch a bunch of film noir hits, most notable among them is In a Lonely Place, with Bogart, which I watched like 3 times in a row.

If you're still looking, give me a shout out. I've been feeling a bit off lately. I could use a pick me up.

  1. Hey Mr. Bennett, I'm still checking out this blog on a somewhat regular basis, and it is good to see another post. I am glad that you remembered our 1 year anniversary, because sadly I did not, but I was thinking about the class yesterday because the Oscar nominations were announced and I remembered your disdain towards them.

It is too bad that you are feeling off lately, and I hope that things get brighter soon. (I blame the weather). The only film that I can really recommend and have already is Up in the Air, although that is not much of a pick-me-up film to be honest.

I really want to see The White Ribbon, but it is not being shown anywhere so I guess I shall have to wait for the DVD.

I'm glad to commemorate that it has been a year, it seems shocking that it was that long ago, and that the experiment turned out to be such a success.

  2. I think Jimmy is right about the bad weather. Also there is relatively little daylight. We only have two more months until spring and longer days. Well not really, all days are 24 hours but there will be more daylight. (pathetic attempt at pick me up joke)
I have only seen two good movies for the first time since the end of the class. I saw I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang and The Mutiny on the Bounty (the one with Clark Gable and Charles Laughton). Both were superb but somewhat saddening. Especially I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang.
By the way why couldn't the boy see the pirate movie?
It was rated Arrrrgh! (even more pathetic attempt at a joke)
2009 seems like ancient history even though it was only a year ago. Last month I revisited the Asphalt Jungle with my father. I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I saw it and my father enjoyed it too.
I apologize for the lack of posting but my thoughts seem to be so fleeting I can never write a post longer than a few sentences.

  4. Thanks for the pick-me-up fella's. It meant a lot to me. I saw Up in the Air, and liked it. There were some technical aspects of the film that I found particularly appealing. Perhaps I'll blog on the topic. Chain Gang was a great film. Frederick March is an overlooked talent of a bygone day. The ending was particularly stunning at the time, though a bit campy today. I also miss the good ole days. I don't have an audience anymore, which is rough. Well, they say the first year of anything new is always hard, so let's suck it up and look forward to great days ahead. Danny, I saw your Mom over at 27. We had a few laughs.

  7. And now it has been a year since the class ended. Truly I enjoyed that class it was the high point of the final semester at tech. I thank you for that Mr. Bennet. Hope the new job is treating you well. As far as movies I recommend: the very strange Schizopolis was a pretty entertaining movie, if you want to see poetic license castrating the idea of the original work, Fassbinder's Querelle takes the cake, and if you want to hear a very angry movie critic get very animated, just watch any of the online rants of The Nostalgia Critic (if he had been in our class we would have spend the whole time rolling on the floor laughing).

  8. There was the noticeably defensive perspective concerning Sq . Enix's muchtouted Future of ultimate Fantasy conference. And also, several would certainly fight, rightly thus. As soon as the catastrophe which was the actual start from the greatly multi player on the web Closing Fantasy XIV, the actual fan backlash within the straight line character of ultimate Wonderland XIII, and also the starting involving chief executive Yoichi Wada right after a good extraordinary fiscal reduction, would it be any question the business was required to assure enthusiasts of the upcoming? Final Wonderland has always been a focus associated with attention,Inch Rectangular Enix Boss Yosuke Matsuda informed the particular loaded space.

  9. Obviously, there is nevertheless the opportunity which Final Wonderland XV could possibly be caught in development heck for the next more effective many years. And with Last Wonderland XIV, just about any a positive manner in which online game had was missing permanently. But there's expect which at up coming seasons E3, Square Enix won't be apologising for the followers. Rather, maybe the video games is going to be so great that it is followers will likely be apologising permanently questioning that to start with.I Mario Kart is really a franchise that is certainly very easy to neglect. The actual gang in the Mushroom Business ride all around on karts, flinging products as well as swapping coloring when they shoot for the actual tartan hole.
