Ground rules.

Ok. I'm so relieved to see that all of you were born in the year of the Horse. I hope that you all know me well enough to be able to hear the scorn and sarcasm with which I utter that last sentence. Before we go on, some ground rules must be obeyed. First of all, notice that I wrote my first post BEFORE I added a ridiculous photograph of myself. Again, I added my first post BEFORE I made up all sorts of nonsense about myself in my Profile. Let us get our priorities straight. Content comes before style. Posts before profiles.

Now, on to our second set of ground rules. We are watching films that are concretely grounded in Post-Modernism. I know you don't know what that is, and I would gladly explain it to you, but it is not so easy to explain at great length, and impossible to do pithily. (I trust you all recognize that I am trying to disguise the fact that I don't know what it is myself) Nevertheless, a Post-Modernist blog must, by it's very nature, be subversive and ironic, always sneering, never taking anything too seriously, especially itself. Therefore, any blogs that contain references to the Zodiac will be instantly destroyed. I simply will not associate with anyone who even allows that they even know what sign they are born under, (I certainly don't) let alone allow such drivel to be attached to their blog.

Ok, so let's sum up, shall we?

1. Profiles follows posts
2. Posts should be Post Modern. Profiles must be Post-Modern
3. No Zodiac references or their functional equivalent. I'll let you know.

  1. Actually I was born in the year of the sheep. Also, would it be inappropriate to write about animated films?

  2. A sheep? Even more reason to keep it quiet. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.

Why on earth would animated films be inappropriate? True, the "camera" in an animated film exists in some imaginary point within the artist's mind, but the techniques used are the same in most ways. So, go ahead. As an aside, one of my star pupils from the class of 2000, Jane N. is currently working as a computer animation artist. I'll ask her to comment on this matter, if she'd like. And I'll try to set up a link to her work which has been featured at several animation festivals around the world.

Wow, I'm glad that I unchecked the little box that says: "Show Astrological Signs" hahaha...

An intersting yet relevant fact I learned today,
At one point in Pre-Renaissance Europe, ASTROLOGY was considered a much more legitimate science than ASTRONOMY & PHYSICS!

Funny how things changes over relatively small intervals of humanity's existence on Earth...

Still didn't really understand what "post-Modernism" ment, so I tried to venture out into the "low-brow" facets of our modern culture in order to try to find something that would put the definition into terms I would understand

    This what I came across:
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=post+modern
    That didn't help much either....

Wouldn't one need to subscribe to the Post-Modern philosophy in order to write such a blog???

  5. Ok. Post-Modern lesson number one: It is actually acceptable to include the Zodiac in your blog provided you do so with the understanding that it is ridiculous. If you do it because you think your "sign" is cool, or because you think girls of a similar sign will want to "hook up" with you, or, god forbid, you actually believe in them, then you are an object of Post-Modern scorn. However, if you adopt the Zodiac as a joke, using it to make a statement about the stupidity and shallowness of such things, then you are adopting a Post-Modern stance. In this instance, we can see the link between Post-Modernism and "camp." Please don't ask me what camp is. So, I revise my original dictum. You may use the Zodiac, provided you can figure out some way to present it in an ironic and subversive way.

I trust this clears everything up for you.

  6. I just noticed your comment on my first blog post. When I said "actual reviews" I wasn't implying that what I would be writing there was fake, just that I wouldn't put as much effort into these ones. Everything I say is truthful, I just don't take the time on it. For that reason, if somebody stops by the blog that isn't a classmate, I don't want them thinking that is my best work, so I was informing them that to find my best work, go visit the other blog.

I'm so glad you said this, it completely legitimizes my otherwise meaningless and haphazardous comments that I will post for the remainder of the class. Well of course my banter always has a purpose in which others can learn from. Of course...
